Lifelong learning is important for leaders! One of the pillars of SHRM is "Advance the Professional”. At Richmond SHRM, we take this concept very seriously. Obtaining HR certification credentials shows employers that the HR professional has taken steps to remain up to date in the human resources field and is preparing for the demands of tomorrow’s workplace.  

Number of volunteers needed 4 (number may grow based on participation levels in program)
 Reports to VP, Professional Advancement (Board position) via Certification Committee Chair
Qualifications Richmond SHRM member
 Skills Developed HR knowledge, leadership, teamwork, organization, coordination, analysis, coaching skills
 Approx. Hours per Month 1.5 (volunteer hours may vary to accommodate committee "busy” period)

Annual Planning Session:  4

Publicizing the certification program: 4

Touch base with certification groups: 4

Tracking and analyzing certification program success:  2

Various conference calls or ad hoc meetings: 4 (allows for 1 hour per quarter)

The Certification Committee will meet annually in Q3 to assess successes of current year program and to make adjustments to the existing program/ create a plan for the following year.  

Committee members will support the efforts of chapter members who wish to become certified. They will publicize the benefits of certification using social media and website promotion.

Committee members will convene study groups at least semi-annually. The Committee members will assist the study group with initial arrangements such as determining place, date, and time of regular meetings. RSHRM often obtains a recent set of SHRM Learning System materials for the use of the group.  Committee members may arrange speakers for the group as requested.  

While the study groups are in session, committee members will briefly contact study group members on a regular basis to ensure that the group is progressing and has the resources that it needs to flourish.   The Committee will track study group "pass” rates and will analyze data to determine best practices for the program.

Committee members will also participate in any required follow up such as a Committee debrief.
