A Winning Strategy for All Employers – Whether Union-free or Organized
Too frequently, organizations mistakenly believe that the National Labor Relations Act applies only to unionized employers. But that is not the case. This session will provide a comprehensive review of the myriad recent policy changes
and litigation from the National Labor Relations Board that are relevant for employers whether organized or union-free. This will include discussions of how these recent changes affect employer workplace rules, employee actions with
or without union involvement, as well as what these changes mean for all employers when it comes to fashioning winning strategies for dealing with the familiar – and new and evolving – workplace issues.
Conducting Legally Compliant Workplace Investigations
Workplace investigations require prompt action when allegations of harassment or other misconduct are alleged. Using interactive technology and case studies, Karen Michael will explore the risks associated with a faulty investigation and will explain
six essential steps to an effective and legally compliant investigation.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the legal standard for review & legal risks associated with a poor investigation.
- Learn the basics on conducting a legally compliant workplace investigation.
- Review how to avoid bias in workplace investigations.
Navigating Legal Pitfalls in Performance Evaluations
Performance appraisals provide an opportunity for employers and employees to engage in a constructive dialogue regarding employees’ performance, goals, and professional development. Through engaging case studies, attendees will gain essential
skills to conduct effective and balanced performance appraisals, while also learning best practices to ensure legal compliance. Learning objectives:
- Prepare participants to conduct effective performance conversations
- Clarify performance appraisal frameworks and timelines
- Explore essential “dos” and “don’ts” of the appraisal process through practical case studies
You Can’t Make This Up: Employment Law Cautionary Tales
During this session, attorneys will present case summaries of incredible but true employment law cases and discuss how the shocking facts could have been avoided or mitigated. After this session, the audience should be able to spot issues that have potential
to escalate quickly. Our goal is to equip HR professionals with the tools necessary to articulate to company executives why it is worth the time and expense to handle “small problems” earlier instead of later.
