Richmond SHRM is a leader in the community and a resource to companies large and small for all things HR. We believe in the inherent value of Inclusion as a business differentiator. RSHRM along with VCU hosts an annual Diversity & Inclusion Symposium to help companies understand this concept and improve their D&I efforts, to help business and HR professionals develop a competency in D&I, and to bring together organizations from across the Commonwealth to discuss current critical topics. An effort this large requires lots of volunteer help to run smoothly!

 Skills Developed HR knowledge, leadership, teamwork, negotiation, organization, coordination, networking, event planning, public speaking (optional), budgeting skills
 Approx. Hours per Month 3.0
 Annual Hours

Committee Planning Session: 4 (2 hours pre-event and 2 hours post-event)
Various conference calls and meetings: monthly October through January, twice monthly February through event: approx. 14 hours
Follow up work on your assignments: 8 to 10
Day of event: 8

The Committee is responsible for planning and executing the symposium with the assistance of RADR, RSHRM Board members, RSHRM staff, VCU staff, and members of other Committees as appropriate. Committee members are expected to deliver a valuable experience for Symposium attendees, to meet assigned goals, and to remain within assigned budget.

Sub-Committees include:

Publicity: Help publicize this key RSHRM event by coordinating RSHRM’s social media and print efforts for the conference. Help develop promotional plan to include content for the webpage, flyers, eblasts, social media channels and any other markets. Help locate new and untapped audiences i.e. other than the RSHRM and VCU contacts.

Speaker Solicitation, Selection, and Care: Find amazing keynote speakers. Solicit speaker RFPs. Review speaker RFPs to select concurrent session speakers. Help write and edit session descriptions received from the speakers for the program and for submission to certification organizations. Along with RSHRM staff, act as a liaison with assigned speakers to make arrangements for AV needs, travel needs, etc. Make assignments for speaker introductions. Obtain speaker gifts.

Sponsor Solicitation and Care: Work with RSHRM staff to find sponsors for the conference. Help coordinate sponsor’s requests regarding promotion and where appropriate, act as a liaison with sponsors for any needs.

Arrangements: Work with RSHRM staff and other committees to arrange site selection, room assignments for speakers, audio visual coordination, room set up, exhibit hall set up and take down, directional signage, registration process, food coordination, photographer and other tasks.
