Greetings and Happy Holidays!

Thank you for being part of Richmond SHRM

It has been a very productive year at Richmond SHRM.   Based on member feedback, we launched several new initiatives including informal discussion groups that we call COIN, Collaborative Innovation Networks.  Look for more of these sessions in 2016!   On the community level, we forged new partnerships in the Workforce Development arena for our region.   Operationally, we decreased the number of emails we send, and researched the feasibility of a new membership option.  Results are in:  In 2016 we will be offering a new membership level for those in the HR community who wish to join Richmond SHRM at a reduced rate.  Members, we need your vote to make these changes:  watch your email for the vote on the new membership offering, bylaws changes, and the Slate for 2016.   Thank you for being a valuable partner in embracing Richmond SHRM’s vision: Inspiring Excellence through People and Culture.

Q:  How Can On-the-Job Training Support the Organizational Recruitment Pipeline? 

A: 
Gone are the days of only offering internships and cooperative education to entry-level employees. “On-the-Job” training (OJT) programs can assist employers who are looking to expand and who need additional staff trained with specialized skills. Incumbent workers eager to learn new skills and up-skill for promotions can benefit from OJT opportunities.

And, through a new federally-funded program, designed to service the unemployed, OJT grants provide reimbursements to employers to help compensate for the costs associated with skills’ upgrade training and loss of production for newly-hired employees. OJT employers may receive up to 50% of the wage rate of OJT trainees to help defray personnel training costs (75% reimbursement is offered to small business with less than 50 employees)...read more

URGENT: Have a Have a PHR or SPHR?  Get a second certification: SHRM CP or SHRM SCP.  It’s easy, it’s free, it’s fast. Don’t miss your chance.  Offer Expires Dec 31.

Maybe you weren’t aware of this offer:  SHRM has introduced two new certifications — the SHRM-CP or the SHRM-SCP!

If you are a current holder of a PHR/SPHR certification from HRCI, you are eligible to take a simple, free, online tutorial to obtain the new SHRM Certification.   That’s right, you will have two certifications behind your name which shows the world you know your HR stuff.   But time is running out.

SHRM will only offer this until December 31, 2015. 

After that, you will have to take the actual exam to get the SHRM certification.  Over half of the 600 Richmond SHRM members holding an HRCI certification have completed the tutorial and they confirm – it’s quick (about 30 minutes) and easy.  Don’t put it off –  take the tutorial today by clicking here.
