<h2>Summary</h2>
<p>The post-pandemic workplace has changed the accommodation conversation in ways most HR handbooks have not caught up to. This session equips HR leaders to respond to the three most common post-2020 accommodation requests return-to-office anxiety, Long-COVID,
    and chronic-condition FMLA overruns with both legal defensibility and human care. Delivered as a practitioner–attorney dialogue, the session interleaves HR frameworks with three realistic hypotheticals analyzed by employment counsel. Participants
    leave with a five-point playbook covering handbook language, manager training, interactive-process documentation, performance-vs-accommodation track separation, and contemporaneous-record practices.<br /><br /></p>
<h2>Learning Objectives</h2>
<p>Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:</p>
<ul>
    <li>Identify three post-pandemic shifts that have changed how HR must approach medical and mental health accommodation requests</li>
    <li>Apply a pre-response checklist to any accommodation request before committing to a formal answer</li>
    <li>Distinguish reasonable additional leave from legally unprotected indefinite leave under the ADA and FMLA</li>
    <li>Recognize when client-site or third-party requirements alter, or do not alter, the employer's duty to accommodate</li>

<p>This session moves beyond the standard accommodation conversation into the four categories that generate the highest-risk decisions for HR: pregnancy under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, religious accommodation post-Groff v. DeJoy, the undisclosed
    or accommodation-adjacent request, and Virginia's medical cannabis protections under Va. Code §40.1-27.4. Delivered as a practitioner–attorney dialogue with four legal hypotheticals, the session closes with a repeatable five-question decision framework
    that participants can apply to any future accommodation request. This session is designed as a standalone program but complements Webinar 1 for attendees seeking a complete series perspective.<br /><br /></p>

Join us for this informal virtual session providing an overview of the program and the application process. We're looking for HR professionals who are interested in elevating their leadership skills or enjoy cultivating leaders.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><span style="font-size: 16px; color: #015696;"><strong>What is the Richmond SHRM Mentoring Program?</strong></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14px;">The Richmond SHRM Mentoring Program was developed to serve as the trusted facilitator of professional connections and mentoring relationships that are of crucial important to an HR professional's career. Through advice, guidance, coaching, mentoring, skill enhancement, and personal leadership development, the mentee will learn in a safe and supportive environment. We strive to help mentees develop professionally and create connections with experienced HR practitioners, and in turn have the mentees give back to the Richmond HR community. Our mentors are dedicated HR professionals who are working to help those around them understand the importance of the profession and how to excel in their career by offering advice and development opportunities. </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-size: 16px;">We are looking for mentors and mentees interested in participating in the 2026 Mentoring Program Cohorts.<br /></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 14px;">New for 2026, the program will be separated into two cohorts with the Spring Cohort running from February - May and the Fall Cohort running from August - October. Our program is best-suited for individuals who are collaborative, self-motivated, and have the ability to commit a minimum of 6 hours a month to learning and development activities associated with a cohort program and 1:1 meetings. </span></p>

The mock trial will include jury deliberations, followed by a discussion of the key points from the actual case.
