Summary
There are four generations co-existing in the workplace right now. Members of at least three of them could be protected from age discrimination. Yes, despite being seen as the new kids on the block, even some Millennials are now 40 years old. So, what can an employer do when their workforce is getting old and out-of-touch? Is there a better way to think of your older workers?
As this mock trial will demonstrate, mistakes can land you in court facing a claim under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. Join the Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black Labor & Employment attorneys as they take you through a mock trial based on a real case. The mock trial will include jury deliberations, followed by a discussion of the key points from this actual case. After the case is presented, the attorneys will be available to answer questions from the audience.
The following topics will be addressed:
- The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967
- Generational differences in the workforce
- Job functions and essential skills
- Reductions in force
Learning Objectives
After this session, attendees should be able to:
- Understand who is protected by the ADEA.
- Identify practices in your workforce that could lead to an ADEA claim.
- Improve your workplace’s practices and procedures to avoid age discrimination and protect the organization from legal liability.
