RADR Meeting: Digging Deeper - The Forgotten Barriers of Unconscious Bias

We’ve been talking about unconscious bias….but who are we really talking about? We often focus on the most obvious dimensions of race, gender, and religion. In the last RADR session of this year, we’ll take a deeper dive into the effects of bias on some different dimensions of diversity. Our expert panel of speakers will provide insight into the experiences in the workplace and potential biases that veterans, the differently abled, and various age groups may face.

Danielle Gilbert, PHR, SHRM-CP, CDP

The founder and president of Manifest In You Consulting, LLC, Danielle Gilbert draws upon more than 15 years of experience to provide individuals with proven development and sound advice. Her experience over the past ten years in Human Resources has included Consulting, Employee Relations, Compensation, Benefits, Training & Development, Coaching, Mentoring, and Recruitment. Danielle spent a big part of her career in managerial roles, including Administrative Director of Human Resources of a large healthcare organization responsible for employee engagement and development, employee relations, and training.

She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in business administration. She later continued her education at Strayer University, earning two masters in Human Resources Management and Public Administration. She also became certified by the Human Resources Certification Institute as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) in January 2013 and certified by the Society of Human Resources Management as SHRM-CP. Gilbert is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Danielle serves on the Board of Directors for Richmond Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM).


Nicole Anderson

Nicole Anderson has extensive experience in veteran employment programs from both Texas and Virginia. She is an Army veteran and served in Fort Lewis, Washington, Camp Red Cloud, South Korea, and Fort Gordon, Georgia. She spent five years as a dual-military family with children and was medically separated after eight years of service. Nicole is now a military spouse who has relocated to Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Lee, Virginia with her active duty husband. In Texas, she served as a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist under the Jobs for Veterans State Grant and Women Veteran Employment Coordinator within the Women Veteran Program. During that time, she established strong relationships with large-scale veteran-friendly employers, which have continued to benefit veterans and transitioning service members in the Commonwealth State. Her personal military transition and work experience have allowed her special insight into some of the obstacles and perseverance that veterans have in their job search. Nicole is completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management.

Dr. Tracey Gendron

Associate Professor and expert on Disrupt Ageism
VCU Department of Gerontology


Dr.Tracey Gendron is the Chair and an associate professor of Gerontology at Virginia Commonwealth University. She teaches several graduate service-based courses including grant writing, research methods and biology of aging. Tracey takes an all-inclusive approach to teaching about aging, particularly highlighting those understudied and underrepresented groups that are at increased risk of negative health outcomes based on discrimination. Her personal and professional goal is to raise awareness of how deeply embedded ageism is within all cultures and settings.

Stuntwoman turned business woman is the best way to start a bio. After being diagnosed with a heart condition at an early age and depending on a service dog for a higher quality of life, Bunny focuses on using each day to fully deliver our purpose within the world. Bunny founded her company, A Better Place Consulting to empower and educate businesses and organizations about the impact of work-life alignment. Bunny enjoys breaking the codependency found between professionals and their companies. Bunny also enjoys teaching burnout prevention to law enforcement, military, and correctional officers. She is a third-generation entrepreneur, an international speaker, retired therapist, surfer and cowgirl who speaks 4 languages.
