Richmond SHRM Hires Executive Director
The Richmond Society for Human Resource Management (Richmond SHRM) announced today the
appointment of Jean B. Alcott as its new Executive Director. Alcott, who has over 20 years of corporate
and non-profit management experience, becomes the first Executive Director of the organization at a time
when businesses through greater Richmond increasingly recognize the strategic contributions that HR
professionals make to successful organization management.
Richmond SHRM is an affiliate of the national Society for Human Resource Management. It currently has
over 1,000 members and is one of the largest SHRM chapters in the United States. Its mission is to provide
leadership and support for the growth and development of human resource professionals across
Richmond SHRM conducts a series of professional development programs and events throughout the year.
Its signature event is the annual Employer All Star Awards, co-hosted with the Greater Richmond Chamber,
recognizing area firms that demonstrate best practices across a variety of HR disciplines.
“Jeannie’s experience and unique background make her an ideal choice to serve as our first Executive
Director and to help lead Richmond SHRM into the future,” said Melissa Jones, president of the Board
of Directors. “Especially in difficult economic times, it is critical that Richmond SHRM’s role and programs
continue to expand and adapt to meet the challenges facing are workers and employers and the changing needs
of our members. We view having a skillful and energetic Executive Director on board as being critical to our
continued growth and success. We’re very excited that Jeannie is joining us.”
Alcott began her career with IBM where she spent 15 years in various management and marketing positions.
Following graduate school, she brought her business expertise to the classroom as an adjunct professor at the
University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business.
In 2005, Alcott co-founded Any Day Gourmet, a small specialty food concept designed to fill a niche in the
growing convenience food market segment. Most recently, she was affiliated with KMAOne, a management
consulting and marketing services firm based in Atlanta, GA.
Alcott has held multiple volunteer leadership positions with area organization, including the Virginia Museum
of Fine Arts, the Steward School, the Junior League and READ Center. She holds a BS in marketing from the
University of Richmond and MS from the University of Virginia.
