Richmond SHRM Receives Distinguished Award
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in Alexandria, VA has awarded the Superior Merit
Chapter designation to the Richmond Society for Human Resource Management for its scope of work in
perpetuating and supporting the mission of the organization in 2009.
SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. The Society serves the
needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more
than 250,000 members in over 140 countries, and more than 575 affiliated chapters.
Richmond SHRM is one of 66 chapters receiving the distinction in SHRM’s Southeast Region comprised of
10 states, DC, the Atlantic Council and 161 affiliated chapters.
“This recognition demonstrates both the leadership and the successful partnership the chapter has with
SHRM to serve the networking and professional development needs of human resource professionals and to
the advancement of the human resources profession” noted Pamela J. Green, SPHR, Chief U.S. Membership
Officer for SHRM.
Richmond SHRM receives a Certificate of Recognition, a specialized banner to display at its meetings and
events, and is being recognized in SHRM’s publications and at its conferences.
Richmond SHRM is a not-for-profit association of over 1,000 human resource professionals in the greater
Richmond area representing more than 800 businesses. Formed in 1958, Richmond SHRM is a chapter of the
national Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and one of the largest in the U.S. Our chapter
has been awarded the Superior Merit Award every year since 1991. We promote professionalism, effective-
ness, and understanding in HR management by offering members a wide variety of professional development
opportunities and a common forum for sharing ideas and experiences.
